100 Officers Join Efforts to Remove Mud from Channel on Jalan Gunung Sahari Utara XI

Central Jakarta City Secretary, Iqbal Akbarudin led the Gerebek Lumpur action (mud cleanup) that involves around 100 joint workers to remove mud from the water channel in RW 03, Jalan Gunung Sahari XI Dalam, Gunung Sahari Utara, on Sunday (3/6).

Those joint officers are from the urban village, Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency Task Force, Bina Marga Sub-agency, Parks and City Forest Sub-agency, Gulkarmat Sub-agency, and Sawah Besar Sub-district PPSU, Central Jakarta.

He said the action aimed to smoothen water flow in the channel. As a result, the officers found many banners, plastic bottles, and other household waste that clog the channel, including tree roots and utility cables.

Mud on Ciliwung Riverbank in Gambir Urban Village Cleaned

"Officers carry out the demolition to smoothen the cleaning of garbage in the channel, including mud," he stated.

He also involved locals in identifying which areas are the priority for repairs and cleaning.

"It aims to create a comfortable, safe, and clean environment," he asserted.

Its cleaning was done manually using shovels and plastic sacks.

"To transport the mud, we send two trucks belonging to the Environment and SDA sub-agencies," he said.

RW 03 Gunung Sahari Utara Chairperson, Harnanty expressed her appreciation to the Central Jakarta administration for conducting the Gerebek Lumpur action in her zone.

She admitted it motivated the locals to conduct community work every week to anticipate flooding.

"Alhamdulillah, floods in our area have decreased considerably and are receding quickly," she admitted.
